You’d like to work with celebrity clients, but you don’t know how to access them.
You have been styling hair for years but still haven’t been able to get your big break.
You have heard that all you need is a good social media following, but you found out that isn’t true.
You feel that your hairstyles are amazing, but you can’t get decision-makers to hire you.
You worry that it could never happen for you because you don’t know “the right” people.
When I first decided to become a freelance hairstylist, I had big dreams of becoming a celebrity hairstylist. I had just graduated college, so I thought I knew it all and had everything I needed to succeed. Who cares that I lived in a small city (i.e., non-major market) and didn’t know anyone in the entertainment industry.
I quickly learned that:
- I didn’t know how to coordinate my own photoshoots to get the images I needed to promote my talent.
- I didn’t have access to celebrity hairstylists to ask questions about this career path.
- I didn’t even have any idea who the people were who hired hairstylists.
